Bolt all the way to the bank

It took sprinter Usain Bolt less than 30 seconds to put himself in the history books. Considering it took more famous names much longer to attain greatness, that’s quite a feat for a 22 year-old country boy from rural Jamaica.Standing at an imposing six feet, five inches, Bolt was the undoubted star of the Olympics in Beijing, China in August, winning three gold medals.

Two of those came in the 100 and 200 metres which he won in record times: 9.69 seconds for the 100 and 19.30 for the 200. His third gold came in the 4X100 metre relay in which he ran the third leg of another world record. As he did when he won the sprint double, the lanky Bolt celebrated by dancing up a storm and played to the hyped crowd. Usain Bolt went to the Olympics with great expectations. He walked away from the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing a superstar – leaving tongues wagging..

A former Miss World, Cindy Breakspeare keeps it real and talks with SHE Caribbean about pageant titles, passion and parenting. She is passionate about Jamaica and Jamaicans. She talks admiringly about the richness of the culture and the strong sense of who Jamaicans are. "Jamaicans really do have an indomitable spirit and always have been known for their outgoingness, friendliness…," she pauses. "It is very sad and heartbreaking to see that wonderful joie de vivre turning into anger under pressure as life gets harder and tougher. [People] feel like they can’t make a life and violence becomes part of our culture. It is the same emotion, just the other side of the coin, because if you’re passionate, you do everything with passion."
