The Barbadian Minister of Family and Youth Affairs, Esther Byer-Suckoo, may seem ‘too sweet’ for politics but she’s tougher than she looks. Many were caught by surprise when she announced her political intentions. Her patients asked her, "But Doc, why you going to do that? You’re so sweet, that’s going to spoil you." She talks frankly to SHE Caribbean about work and family life and openly admits to experiencing the conflicted feelings many career and family women go through. "I had my second son when I was actually doing my hospital rotation. I would come home at night and he would refuse to sleep because he wanted to spend the whole night clinging to me."
