Antigua and Barbuda International Literary Festival

Nov 7- 9

 This three-day celebration of literary arts, features workshops on practical aspects of writing as well as lively discussions on timely literary topics by panels of authors and publicists, author readings on the beach and a gala opening ceremony and reception attended by the Governor General, Prime Minister and government officials of Antigua. While the festival features many authors from the Caribbean Diaspora, it also includes noted writers in a broad range of genres from poetry and non-fiction to performance arts and drama. New York Times best-selling American author Eric Jerome Dickey will be in attendance. Held at Jolly Beach Resort.

 


Black Entertainment Comedy Awards

Nov 6

The only comedy awards in the UK that honours black comedians, BECA (Black Entertainment Comedy Awards) will be held at London’s Camden Centre. The awards have been presented to the cream of UK's black comedians. The event will include a champagne reception, A-List celebrities, top entertainment and guest star appearances. You can vote for your favourite comedians. SHE Caribbean will be attending so you can get a copy of your favourite magazine and enter a competition to win for a trip for two to St Lucia courtesy of SHE Caribbean and Virgin Airlines.

 

 


 

Jamaica Reggae Marathon

The ultra-mellow coastal town of Negril gets surprisingly active as it stages its annual Reggae Marathon. To ease the shock of such strenuous activity, the soulful beats of reggae music help the runners on their way. Before the race there's even a pre-dawn torch lit ritual of Rastafarian drummers chanting "irie" blessings to encourage the runners. Supporting events include a gourmet Pasta Party and the 3-day Marathon Expo, featuring the best of Jamaica's art and crafts along with "runner-related products". 


 Run Barbados 2008

There are two races. The SBI Distribution 10K Race is on Saturday at 4.30pm and starts at Bay Street Esplanade facing away from the city and the turnaround point is near Elsie Payne roundabout before returning to Bay Street Esplanade to finish. The half marathon route is on Sunday at 5am from Bay Street Esplanade, Bridgetown, over the Chamberlain Bridge, right onto Speightstown Road, past the playing field, the bus terminus and back to Bay Street Esplanade. It’s not too late to register.

 


St Kitts & Nevis Carnival

With so many events to pick and choose from it’s best you visit their website so you can select the events you want to attend. One highlight is Pandomonium featuring the St Kitts National Steel Orchestra.

 

Bahamas Junkanoo

Dec 26 - Jan 1

To experience Bahamian culture and art, you should make plans to attend Junkanoo. The Bahamian festival of Junkanoo is an energetic, colourful parade of brightly costumed people gyrating and dancing to the rhythmic accompaniment of cowbells, drums and whistles. Junkanoo can also be experienced on Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Bimini and Abaco. It's held on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year's Day (January 1) from 2 am until 8 am
